This year’s 42km Sanlam Cape Town Marathon, sponsored by ASICS, has introduced a number of points that will make the race more enjoyable for participants, for example a new, faster route and the introduction of the race’s new official paceband.

Participants in the Sanlam Cape Town Marathon will be able to track their own race goals and times with the help of ASICS’ Pace Your Race, the race’s official paceband. It will help participants stay on pace and reach their goal times during the race, which takes place 18 September.

Pace Your Race has already been used successfully at international marathons, including the New York and Paris marathons. The pacebands can be collected from ASICS’ stand at the Cape Town Marathon Expo, where visitors will also be able to do a FootID scan to help make the correct footwear choices.

This year the sea-level race, the only IAAF Silver Label marathon in Africa, will feature a flatter route that promises faster times and will enable elite athletes to challenge records.

The race weekend includes a 10km #PeaceRun, 12km and 22km Peace trail runs, a 4.2km Peace fun run, and the 42km marathon, as well as the expo.

Organisers wish to encourage both participants and non to make a pledge to Run4Change to make a positive impact on society by donating a minimum of R35, for which people will receive a set of special Sanlam Cape Town Marathon Run4Change laces  as well as a pledge sticker to post a message on the Pledge Wall. The pledge can be taken at the expo or through one of the race’s recognised charities.
