Athletes can look forward to soaking up the beauty of the Cape winelands with the upcoming Slanghoek and Jailbreak triathlons sponsored by Sportsmans Warehouse and Brooks (locally distributed by SBR Agencies), among others.

Slanghoek Triathlon will take place in the Slanghoek Valley from 22-23 October and offers four different routes to choose from, catering for both novice and experienced athletes: a MTB and road triathlon, each with a long and short course.

The MTB’ers can choose between entering a sprint distance course consisting of a 650m swim, 12km MTB cycle and a 5km trail run. Athletes looking for something more challenging can try the standard course with its 1.3km swim, 25km MTB cycle and 10km trail run. These MTB triathlons will take place on the first day (Saturday).

The road triathlon on the Sunday also offers a sprint distance (650km swim, 20km bike ride and 5km trail run) and standard distance (1.3km swim, 43km bike ride and 10km trail run).

Registration for The Slanghoek Triathlon can be done online and closes midnight on 12 October.

For the first time, Iqela Events will also be organising the Jailbreak Triathlon. This year’s event, which takes place on 10 December, also offers athletes a new route. Staying with the name’s theme, participants are known as prime suspects, vying for their “freedom” as they strive towards the finish line, and sponsors as “parole officers”.

Participants can choose between two entry options, both of which takes them through the Doran Vineyards: the Maximum Escape entry comprises of a 1.8km swim, 90km bike ride and 20km run, while Minimum Escape involves a 1.4km swim, 45km bike ride and 10km run.

Entries for the Jailbreak Triathlon closes 24 November and registration takes place 8 and 10 December.  Be advised, no U18’s are allowed to enter.
