A trend is emerging among trade shows to move their show dates earlier, to accommodate changing product launch times and when retailers place orders. In previous articles we reported on Eurobike and Outdoor Retailer moving their show dates, and now the US cycling trade show Interbike is considering it as well.
“There has been some strong interest in moving Interbike to a June/July time frame beginning in 2018,” say organisers. “We have had feedback that exhibitors and attendees would find more value in an earlier product introduction/preview timeframe. As such, suppliers might be more inclined to debut product at the show to internal and external sales staff and retailers who want to get a full picture of what the entire industry has to offer.”
The organisers are still surveying exhibitors and retail visitors to find out if they will be interested in an earlier show starting 2018 (usually it’s held mid-September), and if they would want the show to move from Las Vegas where the show has been held since the mid-90s. Alternative host cities are Anaheim in California, and Denver in Salt Lake City.
“Specifically, we have heard interest from participants to explore moving Interbike to the June/July timeframe,” says Pat Hus, Interbike’s show director. “This move would change the purpose of Interbike from an end-of-cycle marketing event to more of a product introduction event. In addition, we understand that some participants have grown tired of the Las Vegas location, so we’re also exploring broader interest in a new location.”
