Former Springbok Stefan Terblanche is participating in the GODZone expedition race as part of Team Merrell, but he’s not the only rugby player to tackle the race: Richie McCaw is racing with Team PwC.

GODZone kicked off on Wednesday evening (the morning of 1 March in New Zealand), and this year’s race is the most technically difficult and taxing route yet in the seven years that the event has taken place.

There are only seven legs over a 450km course, which means that teams can be out for up to 60 hours at a time. It’s expected that winners will take no less than five days to complete the race, and back teams could take up to ten days.

Teams can be followed on the GODZone website, which has live tracking. Our team to watch, Team Merrell, is number 39.
