The chunky sneaker look of the late 1990’s is making a retro resurgence as one of the hottest on-trend looks. Twenty years after the Skechers Energy sneaker created a fashion storm, the brand has now evolved its chunky look into their lightweight D’Lites collection.
Skechers started in 1992 in a beach house in California as a utility boot. Today it is known worldwide as the walking shoe brand, in addition to its vast performance, kids and fashion ranges – around 4 000 shoe, sandals and boots. The original utility boot “quickly became a style icon of the 1990’s grunge era, and from that initial style a footwear powerhouse emerged as the collection quickly grew, diversified and expanded with lines for kids and distinct casual and sport collections for men and women,” says the brand.
Skechers is also synonymous with comfort. This is especially thanks to Memory Foam technology and the use of supportive insoles throughout all its styles. “From sneakers to boots to sandals and dress shoes, shoppers have come to expect unmatched comfort in every pair of Skechers that they own so that they feel great on the job, at school, at play or just hanging out.”
In 2011, Skechers released its GOrun collection, which gave the brand a stepping stone into the world of performance. It was launched through the help of elite runner Meb Keflezighi who later won the 2013 Boston Marathon wearing the Skechers GOmeb Speed 3. The brand now covers running, walking and training for serious athletes as well as casual.
It has also achieved success in the kids market through the use of toy-like features, bright colours, blight and lights. From Twinkle Toes to super bright Energy Lights with multiple colors and sequences – parents and kids know that Skechers is the go-to brand for fun footwear.
