Skechers Performance’s Canadian athletes recently enjoyed good results: three of the four Skechers Performance athletes who claimed the top four spots in the Ironman Mont-Tremblant held in the mountains around Quebec, Canada, were locals. Plus, Skechers’ Brooke Henderson became the first Canadian woman to win the LPGA CP Women’s Open title in 45 years – and the second in the tournament’s history.

Cody Beals, who was the first Canadian to win the Mont-Tremblant Ironman, also set a new bike and overall course record. This was the first full-distance Ironman he completed wearing Skechers GOrun 6.

Another Canadian, Lionel Sanders, ran to a second place finish wearing Skechers GOrun Razor 3 Hyper. Third was the American athlete Matt Russell who wore GOrun 6, while Canadian Antoine Jolicoeur-Desroches finished fourth in GOrun Ride 7.

“It’s exhilarating to prove that I’m not just capable of the half-distance, but that I can win the full-distance as well,” says Beals. “And it’s been a great honour to compete against Lionel – I’ve raced him more than 10 times over the years, and he’s definitely raised the bar for me. Skechers Performance has really helped me concentrate on my technique and focus on the final leg.”

Runner-up Sanders added that he is “inspired by Cody (Beals) in his debut and Matt (Russell) in his comeback.”  He will be a top contender at the Ironman World Championships in Kona this October. “It’s great to be part of such an incredible team, and I look forward to taking the momentum that we’ve got to Kona.”

Skechers Performance running shoes have been gaining popularity since ultra-running champion Meb Keflezigh started wearing them in 2012. It is the title sponsor of the Skechers Performance Los Angeles Marathon® and the footwear and apparel sponsor of the Chevron Houston Marathon and Aramco Houston Half Marathon.

The recent win at Wascana Country Club in Regina, Saskatchewan, is the seventh LPGA title for Brooke Henderson, who plays in Skechers GOgolf footwear and apparel.

“It felt like a dream to get a big win at a Canadian tournament,” she says. “This was truly a Canadian-style game. It was like playing in all four seasons. I was ready though and I had the stability I needed with my Skechers GOgolf Elite V.2 shoes. It just felt so perfect, and I feel honoured to win this for my country. I’m the national champion!”

Since turning professional in December 2014 Henderson has become a frequent women’s golf board leader. She won her first LGPA Tour event in 2015 at the Cambria Portland Classic, a title she defended in 2016. She then became the second youngest player to capture a major championship with her win at the 2016 KPMG Women’s PGA Championship.

In 2016, at the Olympic Games in Brazil, Henderson, who represented Canada, tied for seventh place. In April she became the first Canadian to win the Lotte Championship and is now a single win short of tying Sandra Post for most wins by a Canadian in LPGA history.

She joined the Skechers Performance team in 2016 and has been featured in ongoing marketing campaigns for the brand. Known for its lightweight, high quality, stable and comfortable designs, Skechers Performance GOgolf has achieved prominence within the golf category and its apparel line is appreciated by athletes for offering comfort and freedom of movement through a wide assortment of styles constructed with innovative moisture-wicking fabrics in a variety of colours for both men and women.
