Joubert Klopper – son of Dirk Klopper from Kloppers Sport – will join two US College based players, Richard Thongoana and Bertus Kruger, as practice partners for the South African KIA Davis Cup team. Klopper, the current SA U18 Junior singles champion, will also soon join his team-mates as a US College player.

The squad selected to play against Bulgaria in the Euro/Africa Group II tie at the Kelvin Grove Tennis Club in Cape Town next weekend (13 and 14 September) will consist of Lloyd Harris (world #92) and Raven Klaasen – both back from their US Open participation – Ruan Roelofse and Philip Henning.

The team will play in Lotto clothing, which also sponsors Klaasen and Harris. Klaasen, ranked #8 in doubles, plays with a Head racket and Harris uses Yonex.

“Lloyd is enjoying a career-high ranking wise and is playing consistently well against the top players in the world,” said captain Marcus Ondruska when announcing the team. “Raven is always a stalwart for the team, and his leadership and experience provide such an opportunity for all the players to learn all things tennis.

“His doubles Davis Cup partner – Ruan – is in fine form, having played a lot of singles in the run up to this tie. I’m looking forward to seeing his improvement. It’s also great to see our younger generation stepping up and being included in the team, with the inclusion of Philip and the next gen players.”

Should they win this fixture, South Africa could return to Group I, which would give them an improved chance to get into the newly-restructured Davis Cup World Group.
