Many cartoon characters have become fashion icons and Felix the Cat celebrated his 100th birthday at the end of November by adorning the latest Skechers women’s collection, designed in his signature black and white colours, with touches of red.
“Thanks to his iconic status, Felix the Cat boasts a one-of-a-kind cachet that makes him a perfect partner for our women’s footwear,” says Skechers president Michael Greenberg. “He brings a fresh retro play to our on-trend Skecher Street product, and his recognizable face on BOBS from Skechers will help drive awareness of our philanthropic collections. We look forward to this new collaboration and seeing all the ways that we can utilize Felix the Cat’s broad appeal across multiple styles to reach more consumers than ever.”
Felix the Cat made his first appearance in a silent animated strip Feline Follies in 1919 and became a printed cartoon character in 1923, where he was the most recognised comic character until he was toppled by the likes of Mickey Mouse and his Disney friends.
Every pair of Skechers BOBS shoes featuring Felix that is sold will earn the Petco Foundation a donation from Skechers. The company has donated more than $4.58-m to animal welfare organisations through sales of BOBS footwear since 2015. The company says these funds helped more than 847 000 pets – including 487 000 that were adopted.
Felix the Cat’s comic strips, character prints, logo details and classic colours are featured on several ranges, including Skecher Street chunky platform cleated and slip-on sneakers, as well as Skechers’ BOBS for Cats espadrilles and casual comfort sneakers.
